פרשה וארא II

How we measure up

In relating the story of the Jews enslaved in Egypt, the Torah tells us the names of the heads of the families of the Jewish people and their children.  When naming the family of Levi, the Torah tells us about Aaron and Moshe, and says; (6:26) “this was the Aaron and Moshe to whom Hashem said to take the children of Israel out of Egypt…”  On this Pasuk, Rashi points out that Aaron is listed first to show that they were both equal.
The question is: We know that Moshe was greater, he is referred to as Rabainu (our teacher).  The Torah tells us that there was no other prophet like him ever.  So how could Rashi say that Moshe and Aaron were equal?
The answer is that indeed both Moshe and Aaron were equal because they both tried their hardest to be the best person that they could be.
This shows us how important it is to try our best in every situation.  By trying we can be like our greatest leaders Moshe and Aaron.  Let us always remember that, all we need to do is to try our best.
Shabbat Shalom!

Questions about what we are learning!

This week the 5th grade began learning Mishnah in Chavrutot. This is a student-driven learning style based on a classroom model called "cooperative learning". After being given the background information needed for the Mishnah, the student work in groups to decode the Hebrew and work together to understand the concepts. Click here for a video review of the Mishnah.

1) Originally, what does the Mishnah think about one sleeping under a bed in the Sukkah?

2) How does the story of Rabbi Yehuda disprove the original idea of the Mishnah?

3) Who was Tevi?

4) What can we see from the story of Tevi?
